What to Expect

Laying the Foundation for Total Health

Chiropractic care is like building a house - certain things have to happen in a particular order in order for everything to stand strong and work correctly. When building a house, if you tried to put up your walls before you had a solid foundation, your walls would be weak and eventually collapse. If you tried to put on your roof before the walls were ready, you would run into the same problem. The same is true for your body. Your body has to go through a particular plan of care in order to repair itself correctly and fully. There are three general phases of chiropractic care:

Phase 1: Relief Care

If you are in pain when you come into our office, the first objective is to help you feel better.

Phase 2: Corrective/Restorative Care

During the corrective care phase, muscles and other tissues are allowed to heal more completely, thereby helping prevent injury.

Phase 3: Wellness Care

Once your body has fully healed, it is important to come in for periodic adjustments to avoid problems in the future. This is similar to how you go to your dentist every 6 months or do a yearly physical with your primary provider to ensure optimal wellness.

Patient Forms

Upon entering our office we will welcome you as a member of our family. You are invited to help yourself to water, tea, or coffee. All of our patient forms are available on-line so you are able to fill out the New Patient Intake Form from the comfort of your home or office before your first visit. This form provides us with your insurance information as well so we are able to verify your insurance benefits even before your visit. If you do not have internet access, all forms can be filled out in our Exam Room. This paperwork provides us with your health history and information on your primary health concerns. Additional patient forms with a signature will be completed at your first visit.

Examination

Dr. Leyder will perform a complete chiropractic examination including range of motion, orthopedic tests, neurological testing, and postural analysis. Our primary goal is to determine the specific cause of your individual health concern and provide the best possible chiropractic recommendations to meet your unique health care goals. Additional testing, imaging, or recommendations to other providers will be discussed at this time to better assist in reaching your health care goals.

X-Ray Studies

Depending on your specific condition, we may request X-rays as well. X-rays help us develop the most effective treatment plan for you, and alert us of any serious spinal conditions. Most people are amazed once they see their X-rays up close. In many cases, x-rays can even identify spinal misalignments and degeneration as well.

Report of Findings

At the conclusion of your first visit, Dr. Leyder continues to evaluate your specific conditions and treatment expectations to better create a more customized treatment plan to match your desired treatment goals. This information will be discussed at your second visit with Dr.Leyder when she will provide you a detailed report of all findings and answer any questions including:

  1. How can you help me?
  2. How often do I need to come in?
  3. What will my treatment cost?

Treatment

At the conclusion of your initial examination, as long as there are no contraindications identified, you will experience your first adjustment. This may include spinal adjustments, extremity adjustments, physical therapy, traction, cold laser, electric stimulation of the muscles, decompression, and/or soft tissue medical massage performed by licensed medical massage therapists. All adjustments are very specific and gentle allowing Dr. Leyder to use very low force when adjusting. There are many styles of adjusting but Dr. Leyder has devoted a significant amount of time to continuing education classes allowing her to have many different methods of treatment so that every patient is able to be cared for comfortably. Treatment is interactive, so you may express concerns about the different styles of treatment at anytime.

Wellness Program

Prior to leaving, the doctor will suggest a wellness program to incorporate outside of treatment. If you are in pain when you first come into our office this may include: ice or heat application instructions, certain activities or positions to avoid, and at home exercises and/or stretches. We also offer products at a reduced cost which will aid in your healing process such as Biofreeze and Spider tech kinesio tape. If you desire, our wellness team will work with you to create healthy habits and routines for your lifestyle. Every person is unique, therefore everyone requires a customized wellness plan. The purpose of our wellness program is for you to achieve good spinal alignment, have a healthy diet, exercise, and maintain a positive mental state.
